It was decided, since I added 9,000 words and nearly 40 pages, that the manuscript would go through a second copyedit before final proofing. I'm breaking my self-imposed "don't post on the weekend" rule because literally as I was preparing to blog yesterday, I unexpectedly had to drive down to Portland and fetch my mom, who's flight had gotten snarled. The big happy up front--The Witch's Alphabet went from 79,000 words to roughly 120,000, with only about 3,000 words of cuts. Clearly, the book had more to tell me when I started editing. The only scene I regret cutting is a bit where one of the supporting characters tells Aoife, our heroine, about her mother's untimely demise. It just didn't ( Read more... )
